ÉireComposites received a SC21 award on March 16th 2016. The award reflects a lot of hard work by the company’s manufacturing and quality departments focused on defect elimination and more efficient logistics. It is an endorsement of the quality and on-time delivery associated with ÉireComposites’ aerospace parts. The award was presented in Dublin during the SC21 Task Force Conference which was attended by companies from across the UK and Ireland.
An equestrian saddle developed by ÉireComposites and its partner BUA saddles won the JEC Innovation Award for sports and leisure. The saddle promises greater comfort for both horse and rider, enabling both of them to move freely and without effort, whether the horse is walking, trotting or galloping. The cantilevered tree is made from a thermoplastic composite material, making an economical, water resistant, lightweight (weighing just 4kg, 6kg less than traditional saddles) robust saddle. The award was presented to Kenneth O’Toole from ÉireComposites at the JEC Conference in Paris on March 8th 2016.
ÉireComposites has been granted €0.5 million as part of the €10m FloTec Tidal energy project which is being led by ScotRenewables. ÉireComposites scope is to develop higher performance tidal turbine blades at an affordable cost. The strategic objective is to increase the availability of secure, low-cost, low-carbon electricity from ocean and offshore energy. These objectives will be achieved by using a novel, but commercially proven, manufacturing process for composites.
ÉireComposites has commenced development of 14-metre wind-turbine blades for a UK-based company. The blades will utilise ÉireComposites’ patented technology for composites’ manufacturing. The technology reduces the cost and weight of blades while increasing the strength and stiffness. Most wind blades are made by gluing sub-components (skins, spar, root etc.) together while ÉireComposites’ blades are manufactured in a single piece, thus eliminating the cost and weight associated with gluing parts together and enhancing blade quality. The 14m blades will be used for a derivative of the Vestas V29 wind turbine, a 225kW machine. The V29 is one of the first pitch-regulated turbines and has an excellent track record in terms of reliability.
ÉireComposites has completed structural testing of a scaled demonstrator, thus reaching a key milestone in the Future Launchers Preparedness Program (FLPP) project. The European Space Agency (ESA) has provided €1.9m towards the project and the resulting 0.5m cylindrical demonstrator was manufactured from high-performance thermoplastic composite material using the state-of-the-art Automated Tape Placement (ATP) process.
Galway company, ÉireComposites Teo. today announced that it has been awarded a total of €1.9 million in Research and Development contracts from the European Space Agency, aimed at producing new lightweight composite technologies for future space launcher and satellite structures. These contracts will create 3 new graduate engineering positions at the company – which is supported by Údarás Na Gaeltachta – and support 7 more engineering and technician positions. The company already employs 55 people in a state of the art facility for lightweight aerospace and renewable energy products in Indreabhán, Co. Galway.
Paris, France, June 20 2007 – ÉireComposites Teo, Galway, Ireland and Bombardier Aerospace, Belfast, today signed a manufacturing contract under which ÉireComposites will supply advanced composite aircraft components to Bombardier. The contract was signed at the Paris Airshow in Le Bourget, France, where ÉireComposites is exhibiting at the Enterprise Ireland stand.
ÉireComposites Teo. www.eirecomposites.com (Galway, Ireland) today announced that it has been awarded Nadcap accreditation for composites processing, becoming only the second supplier of advanced composite structures in Europe to achieve this prestigious aerospace accreditation. The accreditation follows in-depth auditing by the Performance Review Institute (PRI) and is in the category Composites Processing – which includes autoclave processing, highly-specialised liquid processing and thermoplastic press-forming techniques.
ÉireComposites Teo. has been awarded EN/AS 9100 accreditation for design and manufacture of aerospace composite components. ÉireComposites operates from a 3,500 sq. metre facility in Co. Galway, Ireland and manufactures advanced composite components for a number of international aerospace programmes.
