Éirecomposites is delighted to announce that it will be participating in the Horizon2020 €6.5m Airpoxy project from September 2018 (funded under H2020-MG-2017, Mobility for Growth). The purpose of the project to develop thermoformable, repairable and bondable epoxybased composites for aeronautical structures. The end-goal is to reduce the production and maintenance costs of composite parts in the aeronautical sector. This will be achieved by introducing a novel family of thermoset composites that preserve all the advantages of conventional thermosets, while showing new, unprecedented features such as Re-processability, Reparability and Recyclability.

Éirecomposites recently exited examinership and secured significant investment from its shareholders.  As part of Airpoxy, which is worth €750,000 to EireComposites, the company will apply its expertise in thermoforming and bonding to the manufacture of proof-of-concept components which demonstrate the advantages of these newly developed composite materials.

Éirecomposites objectives:

  • Develop new thermoset resins from TRL3 (Technology Readiness Level) to TRL5
  • Reduce current costs and times associated with manufacturing thermoset composites
  • Reduce current costs and times for MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) of thermoset composite parts
  • Reduce the cost of adhesive bonding of thermoset composites
