Award of €1.6 m EU H2020 SME Instrument Project
ÉireComposites Teoranta and w1Da Experience announce that their Joint Application for Grant funding under the EU Horizon 2020 SME Instrument programme has been successful.
Their Joint Application provides over €1.6m to extend their research and development of ÉireComposites advanced composites for use on recreational and commercial sailing and powerboats. The outcomes in 2020 will include stronger and lighter composites that will exploit w1Da Experiences’ environmental-friendly ‘zero emissions’ energy regeneration and silent electric propulsion systems for boats.
“It’s the Champions League of companies,” said Dr Bernd Reichert, head of SMEs in Horizon 2020 unit concerning the few companies selected for support, from more than a thousand applicants.
The Project Manager of the Application and the Project, Tomás Flanagan of ÉireComposites said ”We are very pleased that our Application scored so highly and that we have been selected by the European Commission for funding. We look forward to exploiting our composites in the marine sector in partnership with W1Da Experience Limited.”
Rory Staunton, CEO of w1Da Experience Ltd, said, “ÉireComposites structures are proven in the wind energy sector and we will bring to market advanced composites that will be optimised for marine applications. Together with our unique energy systems and market insights, we will produce market-leading products for the European sailors and users of motorboats.”
