The €14m DIMOFAC H2020 project aims to establish a pan-European network of pilot manufacturing lines. Reconfigurability of the pilot lines will be achieved by implementing a Digital Twin of each module and by deploying Digital Thread linking product and process dataflow, enabling seamless secure communication throughout the product lifecycle. The DIMOFAC consortium is issued from the leading European open initiatives on smart manufacturing, leveraging knowhow from past and running EU projects.
Six industrial pilot lines, with multi-material manufacturing, additive manufacturing and assembly capabilities, will be built to demonstrate the DIMOFAC Modular Factory Solution. EireComposites will implement reconfigurable modules for joining of multi-material (metal/thermoplastic) components coupled with inline quality assurance.
Mass customisation requires novel Low Volume, High Mix, High Complexity production schemes, leading to adoption of modular solutions capable of processing a wide range of products. Towards this end, flexibility of reconfiguration and responsiveness of production plants needs to be increased.
DIMOFAC will build on the existing network of pilot manufacturing facilities but will put the focus on delivering productivity and business case benchmarks to manufacturing companies, their investors, and suppliers of new production assets.
The project started on 1-October-2019 and will run for 4 years. The consortium is made up of 29 participants and includes research institutes and industrial leaders
