MULTHEM

MULTHEM Project Wins Funding

MULTHEM is a Horizon Europe project, with a consortium consisting of 9 partners spread across 8 countries – Fundacion CETEMET, Fraunhofer IPK, Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology (LIST), Thales, Airelectric, Brightlands Materials Center, Prima Additive, Brunel University London, and ÉireComposites. The project won €4M in funding under the European Union’s Research & Innovation Programme 2021-2027.

The transport sector highlights fleet electrification as the primary route to achieving climate neutrality, but recognises the need for technologies and production methods to develop lighter, more efficient, and cost effective solutions.

The aim of the MULTHEM project is to develop polymer-metal-based new materials and lightweight structures with good thermal management using Additive Manufacturing (AM) and innovative joining technologies. The benefits of additive manufacturing, including digital production, material reduction and achieving complex freeform geometries, will be exploited for a novel approach that allows the development of new solutions for polymer-metal composite housings for electrical devices (electrical motors, batteries & power converters).

Industries targeted with the concept will include avionics, aerospace, railway, automotive, space, maritime and transport.

The project kicked off in February 2023, and is running for 3 years.

Grant agreement number 101091495.
