Job Summary
The Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers to deliver cutting edge research and development using high performance light weight composite materials. He\she will manage a research and development team that provide technical expertise for the production of novel and advanced composite prototypes, parts and products. This role will involve leading a competing portfolio of projects and engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders. The Engineering Manager will report directly to the CEO. Due to the nature of EireComposites’ blue-chip client base and affinity towards working with innovative companies, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop his\her skills by working on ground-breaking technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the hiring, training, developing, coaching and motivating of the engineering team.
- Establishing team performance goals, team planning and individual appraisals.
- Managing and taking responsibility for the delivery of research projects for clients including commercial customers, ESA, the European Commission, SEAI and other innovation leaders and partners.
- Managing and taking responsibility for the design and manufacturing of cutting-edge composite parts for Research & Development in the aviation, space, renewable energy and automotive industries.
- Providing leadership and centralised management for the planning, development, and execution of technical projects to achieve critical strategic business objectives. Managing multiple, often concurrent projects and consistently meeting expectations.
- Making difficult decisions regarding priorities among projects / programs.
- Managing all phases of project execution including stage gate reviews, design reviews, etc.
- Leading the project team members in using established project management tools and techniques to stay within authorised budget limits, schedule objectives, and quality requirements.
- Monitoring and controlling implementation plans in accordance with defined scope.
- Conducting risk assessments for technical and project related issues and developing mitigation plans to ensure project schedule and costs are maintained.
- Developing industrialisation concepts for new manufacturing methods, products, and materials as well as for increasing efficiency and production rates.
- Managing the development and implementation of process control and quality management systems within the engineering team.
- Working closely with the sales, operations and quality teams to plan and execute large projects.
- Undertaking other duties within the competence and capacity of the role as required to support changing business needs from time to time.
Required Qualifications
- At least 7 years of industry experience showing progression of responsibility.
- An engineering degree, preferably mechanical engineering.
- Proven technical skills and strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Strong Project Management skills.
- People management experience leading a team of engineers
- A target driven attitude with the desire to succeed.
- Experience in advanced manufacturing of composites is desired but not essential.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
